Naturally Greek Honey
In Greek mythology, Melissa (from the Greek word "μέλισσα", honey bee) was a mountain nymph who hid the infant Zeus from his father Cronus, who was intent on devouring him. It was Melissa who first found a honeycomb, tasted it, then mixed it with water as a beverage. She taught her companions to make the drink and eat the food, and thus the bee was named after her, and she was made its guardian. Melissa fed Zeus with honey, giving him a permanent taste for it even once he came to rule on Mount Olympus.
Honey became the food of the gods. Such was its value, gods exchanged it as a gift and humans presented it to them to avoid punishment. Honey was regarded as a therapeutic and a medicinal food and was thought to benefit both healthy and sick people. Centuries later, pure honey is still one of the finest foods that nature can offer us.
Honey is produced by bees which collect nectar and natural juices from plants. It is enriched with other elements before it is stored in the honeycombs. Honey is made by bees in one of the world’s most efficient facilities, the beehive. The 60,000 or so bees in a beehive may collectively travel as much as 55,000 miles and visit more than two million flowers to gather enough nectar to make just a pound of honey! The unique design of the honeycomb, coupled with constant fanning by the bees’ wings, causes evaporation to take place, creating the thick, sweet liquid we know as honey.
